Social Tennis

Social Tennis

Social Tennis is run on Tuesday and Friday evenings from 6.00pm until last light, and Saturday afternoons from 2.00pm until 5.00pm.

Social Tennis is for players of all abilities who are happy to make up a four for doubles. We regret that children below the age of 13 cannot attend adults’ Social Tennis. Those who are 13 and over, who have experience or are having coaching, are welcome, but below 16 should be accompanied by a responsible adult. No need to book - just turn up - you will be most welcome.  On arrival you will be asked to sign in for track-and-trace purposes.

Pairings are changed after each set, so everyone gets a good range of games. Players are expected to mix in, particularly at the start of each session, when members are allocated to courts as they arrive.  The sessions will be run by one lead member, and we respectfully ask you to co-operate with his or her instructions.  Where possible, the organiser will, as each session progresses, attempt to arrange matches between players of more similar ability.

With Covid-19 restrictions removed, we have once again opened the bar following Friday social tennis sessions, and beer, wine and soft drinks will be for sale to thirsty players.  Kind volunteers provide teas on Saturdays afternoons.

We will as usual need volunteers to help enable this system.  Duties  include:

  • Entering the Clubhouse to collect tennis balls from the appropriate box and issuing them to players.
  • Managing the flow of play, to ensure that all players get equal and enjoyable games.
  • Providing refreshments on Saturday and running the bar on Fridays.
  • Securing all equipment and the Clubhouse at close of play.
