Shaftesbury League A Team 2022

Pythouse Club’s Shaftesbury League A Team enjoyed a challenging, but ultimately successful series of matches in the Shaftesbury League.  With eight matches to be played between May & July, sixteen club members participated in the league under the direction of the new captain, Tony Stredwick.   Further teams entered from Donhead, Marnhull, Shillingstone & Stourpaine.  Congratulations to the squad who secured second place behind Shillingstone, after the final match of the league at home to Marnhull.  Click here for the full report.

Shaftesbury League B Team 2022

The B league was reduced this year to 4 teams, Chalke Valley, Marnhull, Shillingstone and Pythouse and so there were only 6 matches played. It was fantastic that none of the matches had to be rescheduled this year which made organisation much easier. The competition went down to the wire with only 3 points separating the top 3 teams and so we are delighted that Pythouse was the cream that floated to the top. Great result. Thank you to everyone who contributed this year (10 of us): Carol, Helen, Juliet, Lorraine & Polly and Mark, Martin, Robert, Stephen & Chris. We hope that we will be able to draw on more members of the club to enjoy the league in 2023.

Sarum League

We won Division 2 and promotion to play in Division 1 next year. The last match of the season was a title decider against Alderbury. We needed to win this 6-2 to take the title and did just that!

The members playing for the team were Claudia Aaron, George Carter, James Carter, Rachel Carter, David Coward, Stuart Cowen, Henrietta Dillon, Emily Lodge, Chris Madel, Suzanne Rawlings, Catherine Ronan, Lesley Small, Caroline Vernon and Lorna Wood.

Shortly after the end of the season Roger Witt, who had organised the Sarum League for many years and contributed so much to tennis in Wiltshire, died tragically early at the age of 56. His death has left a massive void but our thoughts are with his family.

Sarum Knockout Cup

Pythouse Club reached the final of this competition with the team of Chris Madel, Caroline Vernon, Lorna Wood and James Carter losing 7-1 to a strong Salisbury A team.
