News of recent Club Events

With the easing of lockdown and following the LTA's guidance for the resumption of tennis, the club was able to organise the now traditional Late Summer Tournament on Saturday 5 Sep 20. The weather was kind to us - perhaps too kind for those serving into the sun - and 32 members enjoyed playing a fun and evenly balanced series of games. The Tournament was arranged in four leagues of similarly talented players with mixed parings wherever possible. The winners were the individuals in each league who won the most games.

Our victors in each league were:
  • League 1 - Claudia Aaron
  • League 2 - Stuart Cowen
  • League 3 - Jackie Pugh
  • League 4 - Caroline Bond

Hopefully next year, the Club will be able to organise an Early and Late Summer Tournament and details will be notified in the New Year.

Sarum Summer League 2019

We were very close to securing promotion from Division 2 but eventually finished third behind Wellow B and Penton. In the Knockout Cup we defeated Salisbury C 7-1 in the quarter final but were then beaten 8-0 by a strong Riverside team in the semi-final. Will Adeney, Claudia Aaron, James Carter, Rachel Carter, Stuart Cowen, Balth Fabricius, Bede Grossmith, Kate Hall, Jack Jackson, Chris Madel, Catherine Ronan and Caroline Vernon played for the team.

The other members of the team were Will Adeney, Bede Grossmith, James Carter, Rachel Carter, Catherine Ronan, Kate Hall, Claudia Aaron and Stuart Cowen.

August 2019 - HOME AND AWAY
Watercolours by Gerry Blundell

Members enjoyed a superb exhibition of work by Gerry Blundell.  Gerry specialises in watercolours which he has been painting for some time, but more so recently as his professional work has wound down. On show were some more recent pieces drawn from around Wiltshire, and from further afield on holiday.

Gerry generously donated all proceeds of sales to the Club for the purchase of Mini-Tennis nets for children's tennis coaching.
May 2019 - Defibrillator

Good news! The defibrillator has been installed at the clubhouse on the veranda in an alarmed cabinet which anyone can open in emergency.
With fundraising events and the benefit of generous support from Studio Zest we covered most of the costs. Thanks to the efforts of a team of members selling tea, coffee and cake during Wylye Valley Art Trail we have now paid for the installation in full.

What does a defibrillator do? The British Heart Foundation website provides good information.

Paul van Gaver is very willing to chat to members and explain its use if you meet him at a social tennis session. The model was chosen specifically to be readily accessible, and easy to use by those without medical training. With a clear system of illuminated instruction icons and spoken instructions the device itself guides you through using it.

Do chat to Paul if you would like to know more.

22nd February 2019

Members and guests enjoyed a brilliant evening at the clubhouse on Friday. Festive decorations and the gentle aroma of exotic spices welcomed us on arrival, and we discovered there were to be five different curries prepared by a skilled team of chefs led by Morag Macnair. Mein host, Hugh, kept us all in order and set the mood for a convivial evening. With ticket sales, the raffle of some generously donated prizes and bar takings £996 was raised towards the club’s defibrillator appeal. The committee are able to press ahead with the planned purchase.
